Open Post: Treat

Now that the latest burst of activity has actually settled into something like calm for a few days, Tress has settled into a temporary project. In fairness, most of the temporary project took place the previous day in the out of the way kitchen that she had previously commandeered small appliances from. But today requires a bit more wandering.

So she is currently in the process of going around various at least semi-frequented common rooms leaving trays of both nut and honey balls and chocolate coconut balls. Next to each room's tray, she sets down a small card that says in careful handwriting, 'It's been a tough week. Help yourself!'

She's not putting a whole lot of fanfare into the process, but she's also not being particularly secretive about it, so she's easy enough to find throughout.

"Oh, thanks. I'm glad you like them." She smiles back. "And I was fine. I just stayed at the front door and stopped any of them who managed to get that far so the ones who could actually destroy them could come when they got a chance."

“With your spores, right?” Nina’s actually read all of the information on the welcome table. “I saw the vines that were trapping a lot of them. That was great work.”

She nods, smiling. "I modified a flare gun to be able to shoot charges of verdant vines. It's not the first time it's come in handy, so I'm glad I had it available."

[ravkanwitch]

“Impressive! I love how much everyone here came together against the undead,” Nina says, flopping onto one of the nearby couches. “We were all working as a team.”

"You're right. Everyone just kind of fell into their best role, as far as I can tell." She smiles a little. "It could have just turned into chaos, but it didn't."

[ravkanwitch]

“I like a little chaos sometimes,” Nina admits. “And the undead at other times, I guess. But maybe not combined.”

[sporesprouter]

"So less undead chaos in the future." She nods and looks up towards the ceiling. "Got that, whoever's in charge?"

[ravkanwitch]

“What makes you think they’re up there?” Nina asks, feeling slightly silly after the adrenaline rush of the undead. “What if they’re—“ she drops her voice, turning it slightly creepy “—down below.”

Tress laughs. "Fair enough." She looks down. "Same to you!" And then a quick sweep left and right. "Or to the sides."

[ravkanwitch]

Nina laughs. “You tell them. You’re one of the most responsible ones here, so any chaos is a load right onto your shoulders.”

"My shoulders can carry a good bit, but yes, I'd prefer not to add more unnecessarily."

[ravkanwitch]

Nina frowns, suddenly. "Tress, are you doing alright? I know we touched on this a little when we first met but you're taking on a lot for your age." Never mind that Nina is only a few years old than Tress and she also took on a lot at that age, so she's definitely not one to talk...

[sporesprouter]

"I'm fine. Or, I suppose, as fine as you can get being stuck away from your entire life." She shrugs. "Everyone here's been kind, and I've made friends. I still miss home, but I think that's just to be expected. Have to make do until we find a way to leave."

[ravkanwitch]

Nina nods, understanding. "I'm glad we have the people we have here, otherwise this wouldn't be halfway tolerable. Oh - speaking of, a while back, Laertes mentioned that you should join our next activity club meeting. The first time, we fired some pistols, which doesn't seem like it would really be your thing... but we could do something different next time!" Nina makes a mental note to ask Janet how she feels about Laertes before organizing something. She knows the issue with Sagramore is still a sore subject.

"Activity club?" She smiles. "That sounds like it could be fun. I'd love to join in. What other kinds of activities are you thinking of?"

[ravkanwitch]

"Anything! I know there's some sort of translation magic happening, but we could try and have an afternoon of languages. I could also teach everyone how to pick a lock," she says mischievously. "Oh - and Nightingale and I are going to host a talent show."

[sporesprouter]

"An afternoon of languages might be tricky unless we can figure out how to get around the translation magic. But if we could, that would be fun." She laughs a little. "So would lockpicking. And I think the talent show will be excellent to watch, but I don't think any of my talents are really... talent show talents, if that makes sense."

[ravkanwitch]

"It does," Nina nods. "I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do. I'm also a bit of an actress sometimes... but I can't exactly put on a one-woman show. I mean, I could, but it might be slightly awkward."

"Maybe you could do a monologue of some kind? You wouldn't have to do a whole production, I don't think."

[ravkanwitch]

“Either that or poetry?” Nina thinks. She makes a face. “Definitely can’t sing.”

[sporesprouter]

"Poetry would be nice, I think. Or maybe dancing, if you can dance? I'm trying to think of talent show things."

[ravkanwitch]

"I can definitely dance as well. There's nothing you can do for the talent show? Not even a spores demonstration?" She gives Tress a slightly pleading look, hoping to impress Nightingale with how many people she's gotten to commit to the talent show before they meet next.

[sporesprouter]

"I suppose I could do a spores demonstration? At least a small one, anyway, but I don't know how interesting it would really be to watch." She shrugs. "But if you'd like me to, I'll do it."

[ravkanwitch]

"That would be amazing," Nina says, eyes lighting up. "I think everyone will love it."

[sporesprouter]

"If you say so," Tress replies with a shrug. She's a little dubious about the idea of sprouting being fit for a talent show, but Nina seems enthusiastic enough, at least.
