Open Post: What a yarn

There's still quite a bit of winter yet, according to the calendar, not to mention whatever Dark is, and Tress got an idea for a project fairly recently. It's appropriate and it gives her a chance to stretch out a skill she hasn't really gotten an opportunity to use in a while.

So she's in a cozy parlor, sitting curled up in a big comfy armchair right by the window, a basket of yarn at her feet, and she's knitting. It's still too early to be immediately obvious what it is she's knitting, but she's moving with the easy confidence that indicates it's definitely not a new craft she's just now decided to take up.

Sometimes, after all, it's nice to go back to something old and familiar.

Her face settles somewhere between a smile and a grimace. "Oh, that very much makes two of us."

[az_fell]

"Shall we endeavor to forget it ever happened?" Aziraphale offers charitably. "You can tell me what you're knitting. In as much detail as you'd like, if that will help."

"Oh, I'm knitting some gloves. For Galahad. Because there's a lot of winter left and he has cold hands."

[az_fell]

"That's very kind of you," says Aziraphale, quite sincerely. "There are all sorts of troublesome little discomforts associated with being human, aren't there?"

[sporesprouter]

"I suppose, although I don't know if I would have ever thought to put it that way, exactly."

[az_fell]

Aziraphale has the grace to look a bit sheepish about it as he pulls up a seat next to Tress and situates himself on it. "Well, that was my first time experiencing hunger in its traditional form."

Tress blinks, trying to envision what it would be like experiencing hunger, of all things, for the first time. "That must have been... startling."

[az_fell]

"Gravely startling," says Aziraphale with a laugh. "Angels aren't really meant to eat at all, strictly speaking." He makes a delicate little face that should make his feelings on that matter quite clear.

And that's a little laugh. "But you do anyway."

[az_fell]

"Well." That expression shifts into an exaggerated knowing look. "Wouldn't you?"

[sporesprouter]

"Well, I'll admit there have been a few times here and there I would have preferred not to have to eat, but... you're right. It's nice, more often than not."

[az_fell]

"Oh, bad food is surely one of life's greatest tragedies," he says with an affected little sigh. "Are there restaurants where you're from, my dear?"

"There's a tavern on the Rock."

[az_fell]

"And how is the food there?" Aziraphale had been going somewhere with that first question, he thinks, but now he's sincerely curious about this.

[sporesprouter]

"It's good! I mean, it's simple, but it's nice."

[az_fell]

"Ah, that sounds lovely." He heaves another sigh. "Crowley and I used to dine out almost regularly. There's no shortage of excellent restaurants where we came from."

[sporesprouter]

"What was your favorite?"

[az_fell]

"Oh, that honor would certainly have to go to the Ritz," says Aziraphale wistfully. The wistfulness is, at least, certainly tempered by the memory of the dreadfully thoughtful little trick Crowley pulled during their date. It makes him smile. "You should see it! The dining room itself is a work of art, let alone the food."

"It sounds special. I'm glad you found a place you enjoyed so much."

[az_fell]

"As am I." He gives her a little smile. "It's all creature comforts, I suppose, but I'm rather fond of those."

[sporesprouter]

"I hope you've found enough of them here, then, even if they aren't exactly like the ones you had at home."

[az_fell]

Please forgive Aziraphale for this obnoxiously dreamy smile. Or don't forgive him, if you'd rather. "Things are looking up."

[sporesprouter]

That is an adorably dreamy smile. "Well, that's a good sign."

[az_fell]

After a protracted moment, Aziraphale recalls that Tress is probably not also necessarily planning to spend her day thinking charitable¹ thoughts about Anthony J. Crowley. He shakes his head a little to snap out of it. "And? What about you, Tress?"

¹Charity is a virtue! You see, he's doing fantastically at being angelic these days. If you ignore all of the sex he's been having with a demon.

"I've been all right. At least this past event was better than the last couple."
