Yes, Tress might have been up late charting stars, but that doesn't mean that she can't get up at dawn to start doing other work on the continued Operation Get Us Out of Here.

So it's barely light outside when she tucks herself into an out of the way workroom that she's decided to repurpose as a sprouter's workshop. She doesn't have much in the way of spores, just what she arrived with, but that was no reason not to use some. What was the point of hoarding a potential resource? Sitting on something that might be able to help? Not a great idea.

So she currently sits at a table with some supplies laid out carefully before her, carefully taking water from a bowl in front of her with an eyedropper to some pink-red spores and shaping the crystals that spring up from them with a small iron shield-shaped plate and a steel trowel. She's working slowly and incrementally, but several finished spheres sit on the table away from her active work.

On the floor to the side of the table are several full drinking water bottles that she found and commandeered, knowing they'd come in handy if she decides to move on to her next idea.

For now, though, pink crystal spheres.

Claudius has some experience in falling back into self-destructive habits when left to his own devices with only inertia to carry him. But that's an aside, since his habits aren't really worth getting into. "So you've done this before," he says, with a rather wry fondness. "A crew, I imagine, knows there must be a leader at the helm or the ship won't reach its destination. And your crew made you their leader, because I assume they saw the qualities in which you excel. Your determination, your clear-sightedness, your cleverness. Those are skills a leader requires so that she can direct other men to busy work and focus on coming up with brilliant ideas. And you have been brilliant. The trick you pulled off with the midnight spores, there, was something few would have thought to attempt, and I would wager that's true even in your own world. It was even a success." It resembled a terrifying ritual of demonic possession, yes, but it did that successfully. Claudius is well aware there was a worse failure than not finding anything, and it was Tress dead on the lawn. "What I mean is the work you can do without bothering anyone is the work you can easily share ... and people will agree because the goal is shared, too. Galahad is despairing for a purpose, and asking him to walk through the woods with a ball of yarn would no doubt be a kindness. And when circumstances shift again and other paths open up -- as they did with the path in the gardens -- you can approach them as a strategist with a team of able followers. In the meantime, you can recoup and think. As with alchemy, solutions often arise when you step away from an alchemical problem."

"I am willing and able," Claudius says with a flourishing bow, before setting himself to the menial work of gathering up heavy bottles. It occurs to him that Tress may be the only one in this mansion he hasn't introduced himself to as a prince, and there's a freedom to that. He's simply an older man who gardens, knows alchemical reactions, and has some helpful advice about delegation.
